SOLE Fitness Spotlights CC81 Climber for Lower-Impact High-Intensity Cardio

Oct 30, 2026

The stepper-and-climber hybrid gives home exercisers a demanding cardio option with less repetitive joint loading than running or jumping, and it can be bought with pre-tax HSA and FSA funds.

-- SOLE Fitness, the Salt Lake City-based maker of home fitness equipment, is highlighting its CC81 Cardio Climber for people who want high-intensity cardiovascular training at home with less strain on the knees and hips. The machine combines stepper and climber motion in a single vertical frame. It is available now through SOLE Fitness, where buyers can pay with pre-tax Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds.

The CC81 is aimed at a common problem for people who train hard, says the SOLE Fitness team. Research from BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders shows running, jumping and other high-intensity cardio activities place repeated impact on the ankles, knees and hips, and that load can discourage some people from training at the intensity they want. SOLE Fitness notes that stair climbing generally places less stress on the ankles and hips than running, although the load varies with speed and movement. Controlled stepping still places meaningful demand on the heart and lungs, which allows users to keep workouts challenging while reducing repetitive impact.

According to SOLE Fitness, the CC81 uses a 25 lb flywheel and an electronically controlled resistance dial, so users can raise or lower intensity during interval-style sessions. The machine supports users up to 400 lb and has a vertical design suited to home gyms with limited floor space.

“Many of our customers want a workout that truly challenges their heart and lungs, but they don’t want to pay for it with sore knees and hips,” said Brad White, CEO of SOLE Fitness. “We built the CC81 for that person. It brings stepping and climbing together in one machine, so people can train at a high intensity at home while keeping repetitive impact down. Like any piece of equipment, it works best when people start gradually and pay attention to their form.”

SOLE Fitness says setup and technique play a central role in reducing joint strain during stair-based workouts. The company recommends warming up before each session, noting that users should keep the hips, knees and ankles aligned and place the whole foot on each step, avoiding leaning onto the toes or letting the knee drift forward past the foot. Holding this position throughout a session supports the lower-impact movement the machine is designed around.

Beginners are advised to start with just a few minutes on the machine, then pause to see how their body responds before building up session length. SOLE Fitness says this gradual approach suits both people new to stair-based cardio and experienced users returning to the movement after time away. People with existing joint or heart conditions should check with a healthcare provider before starting a new high-intensity routine.

The CC81 ships by freight with curbside delivery as standard, and optional room-of-choice delivery and assembly upgrades are available. Through SOLE Fitness’s partnership with Truemed, eligible buyers can choose HSA or FSA as a payment method at checkout.
