-- Pastor and author Clarence Washington Sr. has released Volume 6 of his Hijacked!: How Dr. King's Dream Became a Nightmare series, titled The Last Chance. The new volume continues a project Washington began across five earlier books, tracing what he describes as the forces that have pulled the country away from the promise of Dr. King's dream and the spiritual response he believes is needed to reverse course.
The Last Chance frames the current moment in stark terms, describing America as standing at a crossroads between revolution and civil war on one side and reformation and revival on the other. Building on the fifth volume's focus on confronting spiritual opposition through prayer, Washington writes that the 2024 election results opened a window for national reformation, one he argues the church now has to meet with a parallel, nationwide spiritual revival. Without that revival, he contends, a change in political leadership alone will not hold. Readers can directly purchase Volume 6 through Olympus Story House.
Washington was also recently featured on ABQ Connect, an Albuquerque-based program covering local and regional issues, where he spoke about prayer and fasting ahead of the November election. In that conversation, he called for prayer for election integrity, wisdom for elected leaders, and unity within the church across political differences, drawing on material from his earlier book Tools for Effective Prayer. The themes he raised there, prayer as both a personal and civic practice, run through the Hijacked! series as well. Listeners can hear the full interview on ABQ Connect.
Washington has pastored Abundant Life Community Church in Albuquerque since 1999 and has written six books, including the four earlier volumes of the Hijacked! series, The Dream, The Hijack, The Nightmare and The Recovery, along with Tools for Effective Prayer and Victory Every Day in Every Way. He holds a bachelor of arts in biblical studies from Luther Rice Seminary and spent 30 years in a career in science and engineering before entering the ministry. Readers can learn more about his full body of work and his prayer and fasting challenge for the 2026 mid-term election at his official website.
