North Carolina is in the middle of the largest broadband build-out in its history, and the state's economic future depends on getting it right. North Carolina Fiber Internet today announced a statewide service that lets residents compare North Carolina fiber internet plans from the top providers building across the state, check live availability at their address, and get connected at a discounted install rate.
Why North Carolina needs fiber to succeed
The state's leaders have made the case plainly: reliable high-speed internet lets students learn, businesses grow and the health care system reach patients. North Carolina has been allocated $1.53 billion under the federal BEAD program, with more than $300 million already approved to reach over 93,000 unserved homes, businesses and community institutions, and American Rescue Plan funds are backing faster service to more than 250,000 locations by the end of 2026 (NC Newsline). A further $26 million in Stop-Gap awards announced in March will connect 5,161 rural locations across 66 counties this year (Office of the Governor).
The stakes are practical. Remote and hybrid work now depends on upload speed, not just download speed. Telehealth, cloud-based classrooms, home security, smart-home devices and small-business point-of-sale systems all push data out of the home as much as they pull it in. Cable networks were built to move data in one direction, which is why a plan advertised at 500 Mbps often delivers only 10 to 35 Mbps up. Fiber carries light equally well in both directions, so a gig down means a gig up, and it has decades of capacity headroom as demand keeps climbing.
"Everybody deserves fast fiber internet, and we're not stopping until North Carolina leads the country in it," said a spokesperson for the North Carolina Fiber Team. "The state is building the network. Our job is to make sure every household can actually find the Fiber Internet that's live on their street and get it at a fair price, without calling five carriers to find out."

Finding a fiber plan at ncfiberinternet.com
Fiber is built street by street, so one side of a road can be live while the other is still under construction. North Carolina Fiber Internet checks an address against live network maps and shows exactly which plans are available at that home, with no phone call or sales pitch. The company is a fiber broker: the carriers pay it, so customers pay nothing extra, and the install and monthly rate come in at the same or better than going direct.
Every high speed internet plan on the site runs on 100% fiber to the home with symmetrical speeds, unlimited data, no annual contract, no early termination fee and a Wi-Fi 7 router included. Tiers range from 200 Mbps up to 8 Gig, including Fiber 2 Gig at $49.99 per month, the most popular Fiber 5 Gig at $79.99 and Fiber 8 Gig at $119, with every rate locked for 12 months from activation and most plans carrying a sign-on bonus. Households unsure which tier fits can take a short plan-matching quiz or run a free speed test to see how their current connection compares with high speed fiber internet.
The service currently covers Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Durham, Winston-Salem, Fayetteville, Cary, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest and Franklinton, with more neighborhoods added as construction crews expand the network.
Availability
Residents can enter a street address at ncfiberinternet.com to see which plans are live at their home. Addresses not yet serviceable can join a waitlist; the company notifies waitlisted households when their street goes live and uses waitlist demand to prioritize where crews build next.
